My wife had been here for lunch before and raved about it. We've been before for the grocery aspect, but the caffe (that's how they spell it) was closed. Today we came for lunch since we were out and about sans kid. It is counter/cafeteria style. My wife and I decided to split the chicken meatball sandwich, the lasagna and the greek salad. I would have prefered the sandwich to use beef and to have mozzarella or provolone cheese, but it was still good and huge. The lasagna was delicious with layers of meat, ricotta, mozzarella and sauce between the pasta. The greek salad had lots of bell peppers and feta cheese, which added a lot of flavor. The dressing was also good. The prices are reasonable. The meatball sub is normally $9, but was on special for $7. The lasagna I think was $8 or $9. The salad is expensive at $5 given the size. My wife said she thought they did lunch specials during the week. The portions of the sub and lasagna were very good. We ended up taking 2/3 of the lasagna home and I had it for dinner. Afterwards we walked around the market and got a couple of snacks that we didn't need, but looked good. One was a key lime soda and some cookies from the bakery. I rarely ever touch soda (maybe 1 per year). I was hoping the soda would have been less sweet and more citrusy, but it was still interesting in a good way. This is a great place for lunch and for getting staple or unique foods.

This place was amazing! If you wanted to buy some type of Italian food, then chances are you could get it here because they seemed to have EVERYTHING! I'm not going to start listing Italian products like the numerous types of pastas or olives or olive oils or even the deli with quite a meat selection; you should just visit the place and see for yourself. What was neat was that there was actually a cafe/restaurant in the middle of the place. It looked like nothing special but the food was also excellent. I wish I could go back there and eat some more!

Love this place. They have an incredible selection of fresh pastas, including squid ink, butternut squash and pumpkin ravioli and pear and cheese ravioli. I have gotten spinach and meat tortellini and it is great. Perfect amount of filling. Their bakery section is mouth watering with a huge assortment of cookies. And they almost always give one free when you're choosing. The Deli counter is likewise fabulous, especially if you choose the garlic cheese spread. Sadly they didn't have on this trip, but I'm hoping they bring back. I did get havarti dill cheese which I'm excited about. Again, incredible selection. Plus all kinds of olives and meats. The aisles are just as well stocked, with one whole aisle dedicated just to pastas. There is also great wines, candy, and selections from around the world, including Indian, Thai, and more. I always go at lunch time so we can eat at cafeteria. Never disappointed. The daughter had chicken orzo soup and I had the special - chicken tetrazzini with spaghetti and salad. With a drink the whole meal was $14. The soup was filled with orZo, vegetables and chicken. Very generous. And the chicken was fall of bones tender in a delicious sauce. Go when you have time to wander and money to spend because you will want it all!

This is the best Italian Market in all of Miami. From Cavatappi to Casteveltrano Olives, they've got all things Italian. Love this place!

I bit rustic but everything is fresh! Very Italian supermarket with home made pastas. Went for lunch also and had the eggplant parm, delicious!

What's not to like? An abundance of homemade pasta (also plenty of non-homemade pasta as well), a huge and varied meat and cheese section with many otherwise difficult to find items along with some pretty epic homemade sausages, a bakery with every kind of sweet treat you'd expect to find at an Italian market (including rainbow cookies)...AND in the center of all this a delicious a la carte italian eatery with sausage and cheese and pasta galore. It's the kind of place that you would drive by without even noticing, but doing so would be a mistake because this place rocks. It's a little on the expensive side, but worth it in my estimation.

came here other day when my mother wanted a true salami. I was very impressed with the variety of things they have - from canolis to fish, they even have a restaurant inside. We bought salami and wafers from, well apparently Italy, but that didn't matter cause it was excellent. They have a broad variety of Italian delicatessen and also supermarket products, so is safe to say one can do partial groceries in here. The reason why I am giving 4 stars is because the place definitely needs a remodeling, and also something for their odor, as they have a quite unpleasant smell inside.

My to go Italian market in the Miami area. Wish there were more like it because you can find really high quality pastas and very special Italian delicacies that nobody else has. Kudos to you guys for carrying what nobody else has!!!

The Tiramisu was the best I've ever had. I bought the entire case for my family. The mini eclairs should probably be illegal. I have 15 family members visiting and they loved everything - prosciutto di parma, mozzerella, italian loaves. I see some people taking stars away for prices. That's cray. The quality and the service in here go above and beyond. This place has loads of character. Easy parking at the gas station next door (otherwise you have to back up onto a busy street).

Another South Florida Italian Deli copy from the North East this one is one of the originals for SFL. Lots of isles with lots of items to choose with tremendous selection of Jarred Sauces, and various oils, etc that you can't get anywhere. Their wine selection is very nice too with higher price points that local wine super stores but also a very nice selection. Where do they fall short just about everywhere else. Place has gone downhill over the years and needs a makeover. A: Bakery bread is really not very good and their pastries always taste Dated. B; the Fresh Pastas don't look like they have been sold in forever and when purchased cooked like they were old and stale. C: Frozen foods look great but some items have been there since the Nixon administration. D: Fresh cold cuts only thing worth wild is the 100% fresh Roast beef which is worth the trip alone. E: Butcher and fish market nothing looks fresh and appetizing to me. F: DIRTY - floors are filthy and if you use the restroom in the back you can see the back room disaray. I'll stop there for certain things only because its local and I can't get them anywhere else but other than that.. I'll Pass.

OMG finally found a spot that is close to where we live that feels like I'm back on Long Island--no its not the most amazing Italian market/restaurant around but it is the real deal, which we have been looking for for what feels like forever since we have been out here. Can't wait to go back!! The restaurant is good, I had their lasagna and tried some of the italian sausage we got for the kids and both were yummy. They have a huge selection of pastas, sauces, meats, etc and their cheese section is like drool!! ahmahgah I could go broke in this place. We took rainbow cookies to go from their bakery and they were gone like 2-3 hours later...they weren't the bestest ever like from a long island bakery but you almost almost almost can't tell a difference and obviously they were delicious because they didn't last even though we got a box of them. I can't wait to go back and try their cold cuts to see if they are any good...most of the cold cuts around here are substandard lol!

The fresh food here is so good. The olives were great, we got some cheese that was tasty and the sliced turkey was also good. The cannolis were in a world of their own. Unfortunately, there were a few issues, some of the cheese we bought already had mold on it, and when we were looking at canned goods, some of them had expired a year ago. So, in general, I would stick to the deli and dessert area!

Our one stop shop for fresh Italian cheeses, olives, meats, and fish. We also shop in their produce section which is operated. Boyfriend is from Italy and my dad is also, both of them have been here. They think some things are overpriced and don't deliver on quality while others do, basically a hit or miss with what you are looking for. I think their fresh ricotta is pretty good for when I can't get any from my dad or nonna and their mozerella isn't the best I have had, but it's good enough to melt over pizzas. Would be better if they gave you the fresh ones in a container with some whey because by the time I bring it home it's already started to dry out. Some of the deli meats are overpriced from what i have seen at other Italian markets but I think their olives and butcher section are fair priced. We always get sausages there, they area about 4.00 a lb so you get two but we cut them in half (they are huge) and often feed 4 with them. They also make cool sausages with different mixes like broccali rabe, chicken and spinach etc; They have a lot of things from Italy that I have had a hard time finding in Miami and they usually run specials on their olive oils of higher quality. I don't like their "Italian" bread, it really isn't Italian it's just a fluffy loaf with sesame seeds and crust and it goes stale in one days. I have purchased it twice and I think it's good to use for my recipes that call for stale bread and that's it. Their fish is pretty good, expensive (a whole fish was 13.00 a lb), but it is fresh and I have talked with the guy behind the counter and he told me its just expensive because a lot of it that isn't from FL is coming from other places. Overall it's a good place to come stock up on cheap produce, olives, some fresh cheeses, and italian goodies!

So adorable! Italian deli indeed, with a dark dining area smattered with Italian kitsch. Not ready to go? What about the darling attendants who are friendly, silver-haired and happy to see you? The fresh grated parm? The ridonkadonk (yup) portions that will surely make your rump the same size? All and all--the food is not bad. My pizza was fresh and delectable, my pal's stuffed pepper was totally OK and my husband's eggplant parm sub? Major. Food. Envy. Don't forget a cannoli!!!

I shop at Laurenzo's about twice per month. They have hard-to-find Italian items, and if they don't have something, they make every effort to get it for you! Everyone has always been happy to help us. I have not had their hot prepared foods yet, but everything I have purchased has always been fresh. And their produce market, on the other side of the parking lot, has a lot of variety and the prices are reasonable.

Laurenzo's is the BEST! The selection of meat, fish and seafood is outstanding and the butchers cater to your most specific need. Shopping at Laurenzo's is fun and to get the full experience, you've got to stop into the cafe for some homemade authentic lasagna, fresh Italian bread and a nice glass of wine before completing your shopping. I feel like I'm in someone's kitchen and it's all very friendly, old-school and just cool. Their homemade al dente pasta and fresh sauces are all excellent as are there homemade desserts. My favorite time to shop there is during the holidays. It's just old-school Italian goodness. Their farmers market across the street is great for reasonably-priced fresh produce and nuts.

Could Rick Ross' "I'm a Boss" be considered the hip hop-ization of Frank Sinatra's "My Way"? I'm going to go a little higher than Michelle's review and that's solely because I liked the taste of my lasagna and jammed out to a couple of Frank Sinatra instrumentals while I ate. My lasagna was delicious! It was a large enough potion that my posting of the picture caused my spinning instructor to comment sarcastically to my Facebook page. I like how you serve it with a meatball and generously go heavy on the marinara sauce. The sauce itself was hearty, with a strong hint of seasoning, an even spread of cheese and al dente pasta. But yes, I agree with Michelle on the decor. Just like a gangster's soundtrack upgraded from Ol' Blue Eyes to Rozay, the decor needs to be modernized. Please Mr. Laurenzo, take heed as this is coming from a design professional. Unless the intent is to keep a 70's Brooklyn Social club aesthetic, my design recommendation would be to fix up the dining area - at least upgrade the lighting. By the way, please consider the option of including one or two desserts in the cafeteria section. I saw a sign by the cashier for the zeppoli, and my mind and stomach were ready to say "fughedaboutit" to my usual zeppoli place but alas you didn't have any. The lack of dessert is the main reason im taking so many stars out. The cashier could have been a little friendlier too. Love this place. It's been here forever and I hope it stays. Nothing fancy, just straight up good products and a large variety. If you need a specific olive oil, they have tons to choose from. Fresh pasta that is always delicious. Different cheeses, antipasti and cold cuts. The farmers market across the parking lot always has fresh produce at very reasonable prices. Before Whole Foods, Fresh Market and even Epicure (in Sunny Isles, at least) there was Laurenzo's. My only suggestion to them would be a little updating without compromising the character. That way we can have them around for an even longer time.

First time I've been here, I didn't realize how large it is. Also, there's a little restaurant in the middle that serves lunch. I must come here and try that. There's a lot of fresh breads, pastries and pastas there, not to mention a good assortment of wine. I will put this on my list of places to go. You should stop by two.

Ok I am giving this place a 4 for the following reasons: 1) it's a nice yet typical Italian neighborhood store, you can find almost anything at very good prices, tons of selection, I was amazed. 2) they have a cold food counter: everything looked amazing, I didn't try anything but next time I will. 3) they have a hot food area with salads, pastas, fish, chicken, etc. everything made the same day (i think). I had the braised chicken with pasta, salad and bread ($8.99). This is not high class but it definitely tastes home made. They have a small seating area where you can hear Italiano being spoken, always a good sign. They have tons of home made pasta, sauces, deserts, etc at the market itself. I could get lost in there for hours!!!! There aren't enough of these places around anymore. This isn't a spot for fancy Italian food, its home made, presentation goes out the window!

While I do agree with Michelle C about it looking a run down, I still love Laurenzo's. I'm somewhat shy, so I don't usually have much conversation with grocery store workers other than small pleasantries, but they have always gone out of their way to strike up a conversation with me when I visit. I love their fresh pastas when I'm too lazy to cook at home, and they have always been so helpful when trying some of their new varieties on cooking instructions, pairings, etc. I haven't ever bought meat here, so I can't comment on the quality, however I do agree that they could make their meat/seafood cases a tad more inviting. Their produce market across the street could also use a major renovation/cleaning. Where Laurenzo's shines is in the dry goods, the fresh pastas, their bakery and their frozen goods. I have repeatedly bought from here and they have never disappointed me.

You can go into this place and say it is a little banged up and leave... OR you can give it a chance and spend time exploring all the amazing, unique and hard to find Italian food. Don't look for help down the isle, because in this place you are on your own to explore.

  • Chringram I.

Inside the market is a cafe that seats plenty! They have a lot of wonderful fresh and tasty italian dishes to eat right there while enjoying the company of friendly strangers. You'll be warmed while you eat by constant tunes from Sinatra, Dean Marttin, Tony Bennet, Louis Armstrong, etc there's a note from a customer on the entry board thanking the owner for keeping his childhood memories alive. This tells me the place has been around a while. Not sure what happened to the surrounding neighborhood!? Don't let that scare you ... Otherwise, you'll miss a fantastic North Miami secret!

As much as I dislike writing an update like this, I feel it is much needed. My first experience was great and now that I think back it was probably because I was so busy chatting with the wine manager who was very nice I had blinders on. Been back several times now and last week did it for me. I will not be visiting again. Why? Reason number 1: this place is so old and dingy looking, come on spruce it up, put some money into renovating it. Not like your not making money. It looks very dirty to the point where you do not want to buy food items. #2- Your staff are some of the rudest people I have ever met. From the dude at the meat counter, the bakery by far the worst, and the guy who bag's groceries, gee he was so rude to me. Luckily, he is a very old man otherwise we would have had words. #3- You have some decent prices on meat and good cuts but everything else is high. I will drive to Broward from now on and shop at the very clean friendly "Doris." I am so done with you. You seriously pist me off for the last time and I will spend my money elsewhere.

I think it deserves five stars, nothing less than that. I disagree with some of the reviews, saying its shoddy, run-down. Okay, so yeah, it's vintage, but what's so bad about that? It looked clean to me. Oh, I see, you'd prefer your local market to be akin to that of the Fresh Market? You know, pristine lighting, palissandro marble stone panels, flat screen TVs, and such. How Miami. Am I the only one who loves local, vintage markets? Laurenzo's has that 1970s Italian-American-esque feel to it -- it really does feel like you're in Brooklyn or Newark (though, even in those cities, traditional markets like that of Laurenzo's are becoming scarce). The employees are kind, there's a section upon walking in where they display souvenirs, with slogan t-shirts like 'Fuggedaboutit' (just in case you forget that you're walking into a traditional Italian market). If you're worried about your diet, this isn't the place to shop, this an Italian-pig-out haven. If you're an Italian aficionado, you've walked into Shangri-la, this is the place to be for all Italian. Regardless of whether you disagree with the pricing (which, I tend to think is fair), it has all your Italian goodies: imported Italian wines, aged Extra Virgin Olive Oil and Balsamic Vinegar, Italian desserts, pastas, canned tomato sauces that even Whole Foods doesn't have. I love arancini (a cult Sicilian dish), and this place makes it fresh -- just like grandma'. I come during the weekend for some, and I usually get some of their handmade gnocchi. The owners, or managers (?) -- workers too -- are kind as can be. This place is a gem.

As a little girl, I always loved going to Laurenzo's with my mom. It felt so different than the regular grocery store and I liked seeing all of the new things that we could buy that weren't found in Publix. Whenever we would come home from their market, I would beg my mom to start cooking...and to be her little helper. As I've gotten older, I really appreciate what Laurenzo's has to offer- especially when it comes to meat! Most grocery chains can't compare to the selection, the cuts, or the prices of the meat and seafood at Laurenzo's. Big, fresh cuts of meat are available for a fraction of what you'd pay at a local chain grocer. They've also got tons of non-typical Italian cooking products that you won't find elsewhere, and a little restaurant area in the middle to chow down during a shopping break. Laurenzo's feels old school because it is old school...and this little ragazza wouldn't have it any other way.

HEAVEN. Definitely the place for the food aficionado! Do you appreciate great olives? Fresh, quality cheeses? Wild-caught seafood? Top notch olive oils? And a huge selection of amazing wines? Laurenzo's is the place! Right next to the specialty market is also the Laurenzo's produce store! Be sure to stop by - you can catch a deal at this local spot, plus you can even find organic produce! If you're cooking up a lovely dinner you can get it all here! Love Laurenzo's! It's great that a place like this exists in North Miami aside from all the bog box corporations! Support local business!

This is as good as Little Italy in New York City Philadelphia and if you close your eyes it feels like Rome, Everything you want to find in Italy is here , why get on a jet for nine hours, There is a deli cafe, a m and a bakery all under one roof. The expresso was as good as in Rome. here is plenty of parking and the prices are fair. Why buy wines in Italy to ship home or carry them all over Europe when you can get them for almost the same price here. Ciao !

I just wrote a scathing review of Epicure thanks to the very fair prices at Laurenzo's. Epicure charged me $55 about a month ago for the same olive oil I bought today at Laurenzo's for $43. Keep up the great work. Im posting a picture. Laurenzo's also makes their own ricotta and mozzarella, its nice to see pride and passion mixed with a focus on customer retention. They make their own pasta and also have Mimi's and Pastosa's if you should choose as well as multiple brands of dry pasta. They have an excellent selection as well. This market was referred to me by Tatum of Flour Child. I'll stick to her referrals from now on.

A low brow location and store with superior products. I have been going to this "secret" spot for close to 20 years. Top 5 reasons to go: 1) fresh hand made pasta and gnocchi, 2) a low cost / worth every penny cafeteria that cannot be found ANYWHERE in South Florida. 3) Excellent Italian Cheese!!!! 4) Deli and Butcher that you can chat with 5) an interesting wine selection (not the biggest/cheapest but always interesting) What is not to like? They don't care who you are and they are not going to stop the world just because you walked in. So "special people" are going to feel ordinary. However, approach them in a friendly way and start a conversation and you quickly become "family". This ain't no Whole Foods. No special lighting and over priced specials. But an adventure in old school groceries.

I have shopped here a good number of times over the past decade and even though it has been getting grungier, more disheveled looking over the years and the wait staff has become generally less friendly as well as less accommodating, I'm still giving it a Five Star. The reason is that as Italian markets go, it has such a vast, well chosen, otherwise varied, difficult to locate elsewhere selection from which to choose. This seems to hold true for most items but more particularly with regards to sauces, oils, sausages, baloneys, seasoned, dried, and cured meats. I've also found their veal cuts as well as chops, though pricey, to always be of top end cut, top of the line quality as well as some of the best even though my preferred Italian market, given a choice between two, is definitely Doris.

Five stars? When I read reviews on here that compare this skidmark circus to an Italian countryside, I have to stop myself and really try to picture it: heat, dead-eyed workers, and bugs. And suddenly, everything is honest and everyone's happily handing out five stars again. And I'm talking specifically about the cafeteria. The dry grocery, dairy, and meat departments have varied selections at decent prices for specialty items. I think anything canned or with a factory seal is safe. Also, you can get some pretty good deals at the produce market across the street. Look, I still shop here. It's just so goddamned dingy.

You can take the girl out of NY but you can't take NY out of the girl. For years my sister-in-law and I have been searching for a NY style deli. All we want is a good Italian sandwich, some peppers stuffed with prosciutto and mozzarella or some thin, cheesy, greasy pizza. We searched, oh how we searched! This past Saturday I traveled up to Aventura/N. Miami Beach for a facial/massage appointment. As we headed home, I looked over to my left and saw a sign that read Laurenzo's Italian Specialty Food Market. My heart skipped a beat. I said "Oooh look!" My fiancé suggested we stop and I braked hard and made a left. I parked quickly and ran inside. I think I heard angels sing as I walked through the market. I was so happy! We passed the grocery section, the bakery section, the restaurant, etc. All I had in mind was looking for finding the deli. As I came upon it I squealed in delight. Everything I had been searching was in front of me. We ended up eating pizza, buying a hunk of cheese and a jar full of peppers stuffed with prosciutto and mozzarella. Delicious, delicious, delicious! The whole family is going to eat and shop there next weekend. By the way, they have free wine tastings every Saturday.

I have been looking for better quality meats but more reasonable prices than whole foods. Look no further! Laurenzo's has the classic style butcher shop similar to what I used to go to as a kid with my grand father. They will usually give you the cut that you request or you can pick from what is already in the display case. I also go here to buy my tomato sauce and flour for making pizzas. They carry many imported products that are not found at most local publix or winn dixies and the prices are also pretty reasonable. Across the street they have their produce market which has the freshest varieties of produce and at super low prices. Don't buy your produce at publix or you will be getting ripped off, check out Laurenzo's and then make your decision!!!

AWESOME Italian market. The only one I can find of its kind in South Florida. Great subs, prepared meals, pasta selection and all kinds of things you can only find in either Italy or North NJ. Classy feel to the place. Truly best Italian sub I have had in Florida. A++ The best part is their Fruit and Vegetable market next door. Prices are better than anywhere else, produce is fresh and they have a great selection.

I've been looking for a place like this ever since I moved to Miami- an authentic Italian market. I'd heard good things about Laurenzo's and was blown away! First off the bakery is legit- and amazing. All of the holiday cookies, Italian delicacies, biscotti, etc. All homemade, and they know their stuff. I'm not Italian but it made me wish I had an Italian nonna that made these sorts of treats! Pizzelle cookies and all sorts of "from the homeland" goodies. They have a prepared foods counter with pasta, chicken parm, sausage and peppers, in addition to a sandwich area. They have a huge case entirely full of marinated veggies, salads to go and all the antipasti fixings. They have a second case entirely full of different types of olives. They also have a full butcher, sausage selection and even a fish counter. The fish counter blew me away. Fresh everything- stone crab claws were on sale for $14.99/lb. Huge Florida lobsters on sale for $9.99/lb. They even have some ceviche type prepared salads and that seaweed/sesame salad that they serve at a lot of sushi bars/Japanese restaurants. What stole my heart was the aisles of dry goods- an entire aisle full of pastas, every type, brand, size, you name it. A second aisle was devoted to tomatoes, sauces, imported vegetables. They even have an "ethnic" foods isle full of Asian, Turkish, Swedish, German, etc foodstuffs. They have imported butters I've never seen anywhere else in S.Florida, great selection of prepared sauces, two cases full of fresh pastas. They even have an aisle with low salt/sodium prepared foods, all sorts of spices (I purchased a 16 oz jar of dried lavender from Provence- great for sprinkling on a cheese tray or desserts for $3.50!) I didn't try the cafe but they have free wine tastings every Saturday from 1-5 and there was a nice sized group of locals there enjoying some wine and hot foods. It was charming. The place is a little run down and it could use a lot of dusting, for sure, but the sheer selection of all the items you didn't know they even imported, are here. I leave off a star because I purchased an Italian hoagie to go and it was the most bland sandwich I've ever had. That was disappointing. It just taught me to buy the fixings there and make the sandwich at home. I've literally had a more authentic and tasty Italian "grinder" from Fresh Market.... All in all I will be going back now that I know they have all the esoteric and unusual ingredients that they do- they even have an interesting aisle next to the wine that has orange blossom water and rose flower water and pomegranate molasses- just the thing for making interesting cocktails at home or to use in desserts or ice cream. It's definitely a fun place to browse for anyone who loves to cook!

I pretty much exclusively shop here and the farmers market next door. The prices are excellent and the quality is very good. Italian food is very good here, I also buy lots of items from the bakery (bread is great), the deli counter (cold cuts, and tons of options for Italian food), meat (the homemade chicken sausage and other sausages are fantastic), and the fish is always fresh and reasonably priced. Don't buy much of other items from the shelves, but sometimes its good to get some great olive oil, vinegar, or other italian items. Wine selection is very good, and reasonable as well. The place is very old and dingy, but I don't need a fancy supermarket as long as the prices are good and the quality of the items are good.

I agreed with Anthony Bourdain when he recently said, "If I had the choice of how/where I would die, it would be somewhere in the beautiful Italian countryside - I'd be an old, fat mafioso with fresh pasta still in my mouth when it happened...." In Miami, Laurenzo's is the closest you can get to a death-worthy italian countryside picnic. It has every Mediterranean delicacy you could imagine, from fresh ricotta to almond biscotti made on-premise. Upon a recent trip, I wandered the aisles like a kid in a candy store. I left with things like fresh asiago gnocchi, peppadew peppers, chocolate cannolis, a jar of nutella, stuffed olives, 12-year balsamic vinegar from modena, homemade spicy italian sausage, pickled cucumbers and a 2008 Chianti Classico. Although the store seems a little dumpy appearance-wise, it remains authentic and its range of quality food products makes every trip seem like an exercise in self control. il migliore!

Laurenzo's is an impressive place with it's huge market of Italian everything. The central little cafeteria style cafe tucked inside the market came complete with checked table cloths, faded paintings of old Italy, and a man pulling fresh mozzarella before our eyes. Come on, perfect right? Even down the extremely rude cashier who seemed so put out about me using a debit card to pay for my family's five meals was quaint enough. The meat lasagna at $7.99 (for the lasagna and a piece of bread) was actually very, very good and I was a happy person. Bathroom was disgusting, but that's okay - they have cannoli to take home and to-go meat sauce which was amazing. So, still high on my experience, I went back a second time to pick up some of their frozen items. And somehow it's as if I'd shown up for some bad off-Broadway play and the understudies understudies are there now and they are mean and unhappy and could care less that you are giving them your hard earned money to do their job. The take home frozen lasagna was $46 for a 9x12 tray and you still have to cook it yourself. I opted for the $12 frozen mushroom pizza. Then to make matters worse, upon heating, the pizza tasted like t had been stored in the deep freeze for at least a decade. My last impression of Laurenzo's? Sad.

Betrayed by Yelp! I'm crushed. Devastated. Demoralized. How I can I trust you again? I had such high hopes for this place based on the glowing reviews. As soon as you walk in the store, the overwhelming stench hits you. I forced myself to continue into the store because of the glowing reviews on Yelp! Stench remained and it was not an obvious there's a problem with the sewer line type stench. No, this was a "you need a tanker truck of bleach to get this store clean" type of stench. The lighting is very dim so I kept expecting to see a roach at any moment. I did not see any critters, but there was no way I was going to buy anything. I've been in many an inner city hole in the wall establishment, but they were always CLEAN. The deli stuff looked questionable. The bakery and fresh pasta side looked much better, but by that point I just wanted to flee the building. I felt like consuming any food from Laurenzo's would be a good way to get food poisoning. The farmers market store did not smell, but still had a scurvy look to it. Everyone was friendly at both locations. I have a hard time believing either place passed health inspections.

Awesome Italian market. Wish it were closer to home. I would spend lots of time here. Everything looked great and the service was spot on. Will definitely stop by again when in the area. Try the subs, Delicious.

Unfortunately disappointed. I was very excited about finally finding a great place where they make their own fresh made pasta and I ended up buying 7 different kinds. 6 out of the 7 pastas were decent to bad quality. Their frozen pumpkin ravioli which are is the same ravioli that Doris supermarket has are not very good. So dont go there for the fresh pasta if you like good pasta. They do have a great selection of specialty products and their seafood selection was better than you'd expect for a supermarket. I primarily went there for the fresh pasta so I am basically giving it a low rating because of that, however overall I have to rate the supermarket higher for their product selection and variety.

The management and staff of this business are the rudest, most unhelpful staff I know. No hello, can I help you, thank you or goodbye. As a retailer myself, it's amazing they are in business. It's not even a great market. It's fair at best. Most of the pastries suck. The meat and fish are just OK. Wine prices are high. Their prepared food is ridiculously bad. I don't get it. What I do get is to go to Mimi's in Hollywood. It's worth the drive!!

I made the mistake of getting two cannolis from here. They were so hard you'd think an Italian brought them over through Ellis Island.

I am so glad to see Laurenzo's is so popular with everyone! As an Italian American my family and I have been coming here since the 70's. My favorite parts: 1) It feels like home.... you know, like mama used to make! 2) they have the best imported tomatoes (among other things) from Italy and we foodies know junk in/junk out and put the best in and get the best out of it. 3) great seafood selection, especially on Saturday (by Sunday those Sea Scallops will be long gone!) and 4) A good ole Italian bakery. Personally I always take a ticket and get an "extra crusty" loaf from behind the counter. For those who just like bread...and not Love bread feel free to just grab one those loaves in the paper sleeves that you don't have to wait for. Nothing wrong with them but I'm a sucker for a good crust. To stay politically correct, I will not share my opinion on whether you should slice or break bread....can't we all just get along (even on bread??) My continued disappointments for 30+ years: 1) the restrooms are beyond gross. Seriously hold-it if you have to. Please, take my word on this one. 2) ok, I get that you are not going to renovate anything after all of this time, but seriously? Leaks in the ceiling, old, old, old. It's dirty and if I didn't love it in my heart it would be a complete turnoff. 3) I do not buy the aged parma cheese there or really anything in their cold cases with the exception of meats. I had bad experiences with it, like they were old and tasted like refrigerator (make sense??) Anything behind the deli counter has always been very good and fresh including the butcher shop. Very good prices on their meat. Boneless chicken breast, beef tenderloin, etc. They are actually real butchers there and will cut, tie, etc anything you would like with pleasure. Not like those "other" grocery stores where you can never find a butcher to assist you for anything specialty. You can call ahead too and they will prepare it for you. I have used their catering services also in the past and it was very reasonable, excellent quality and super plentiful. When they say it feeds 50, think it feeds more like 100! Very generous. Walked it out to the car for me, etc. That was a very nice service and a good value. The farmer's market portion is a great value. You can fill your cart with fresh fruit, veggies and spices and it is a Fraction of the price of any supermarket. It seems to have a sketchy crowd shopping and sometimes working there but I'll leave it at that. Overall, I will always love Laurenzo's and how they used to have a man playing the accordion in the café when I was a kid, I will continue to go back and eat the spinach pie and Greek salad for lunch and buy the best olive oils and wines in town, but come on....mop the floor would ya?!

They say you can't go home again. 20 years ago I lived and shopped at Laurenzo's daily. Everything was fresh and delicious. How I wanted everything to have remained the same. Some things did, the majority did not. Their fresh pasta is stale, served from sheet trays, they add the freshly made to the old and stale. The spinach fettuccine was so hard, it broke when I picked up the nest, the gnocchi was like a walnut, boiled, served, and not even eaten. The marinara sauce is still good, if you are too lazy to open the can of tomatoes and saute garlic. The focaccia bread, used to be called Pizza bread, is wonderful. I will tell you later about the Italian sausage, waiting to be cooked. If you want fresh pasta, go to Mimi's, they have locations all over, or buy Barilla in Publix .Arrivederci, Laurenzo"s.

  • Sean S.

Once again, we have weird reviews up and I think people just miss the boat sometimes. When Roger Ebert reviews movies he changes his expectations and review based on the genres. When you go to Laurenzo's I think you need to see it for what it is and then take advantage of what they offer where if you know what you are doing and you know prices you can really clean up. I will admit when I first walked into the store I was kind of not impressed and you won't be either if you stop at the cold section which is the 1st aisle and pick up a tub of cream cheese you can buy for less at Publix for example. That's not the reason to go to the store so let me highlight what you should be looking for. 1. They have an incredible selection of pastas, sauces, and canned tomatoes that you won't find anywhere plus the prices are very affordable. They have a ton of San Marzano tomatoes and if you don't know what that is then you really aren't qualified to be making up reviews. 2. They have a terrific selection of homemade sausages at really reasonable prices. I bought a variety of them and they came out beautiful. Now if you don't know how to cook then why waste your time here? 3. They sell 5lb packages of boneless and mostly skinless chix breast for $2 a lb or $10 for the package. 5 lbs of chix breast plus several lbs of their homemade sausages can go a long way with the sauces and pastas I just mentioned. Again, if you don't really cook then this store is gonna be a disappointment because nothing they have in their cafe area looked good to me but then again I make food usually better than I can eat out. They have a lot of other stuff in the store that you can't find other places but if you like to make your own sauces, make up a batch of food to eat on for a few days or as a staple for your meals for the week, this is definitely worth your while. If you are looking for a piece of pizza and feel compelled to give this place 1 star because you couldn't look at it sitting there and realize it probably wouldn't be that good...again go play in traffic because you are misleading the folks who could really benefit from a trip to this store. If I sound a bit off my rocker, I am definitely on the eccentric side and I like a good deal. Not everything here is cheap, and there are a lot of items I would buy elsewhere however for some of the things I highlighted this place is well worth the trip to stock up and have a few meals on hand. They have an excellent wine selection as well. I did go to the produce stand across from this store and there are some deals to be had there as well. I think 4 stars is reasonable based on this being an old time Italian Market that you just don't see a lot of anymore. Big chain stores have the money to burn on redecorating every couple years, this place pours its resources into their products. Make a trip there and see it for yourself, you'll be glad you did.

This place is great for anything Italian. You'll walk in and be a bit surprised by the lack of ambiance, if you will, because it's a dark, dingy, oversized hole-in-the-wall kinda place, but you will get over that feeling very quickly once you see the awesome product selection in this place. They have great chocolates from Italy, sauces, spreads, spices, European drinks (like Orangina) fresh and frozen pastas, garlic bread, pizzas (baked, or frozen or refrigerated to bake at home), cheeses, meats..seriously, anything! They also have a little cafe with Italian food. I didn't try it this time around, but I hear the pizza and lasagna is really good. Now let me get to my favorite part--the pastries! Uhhh AMAZING! Theyre great and they're cheap! I got these long pastry sticks filled with cream cheese 2 for $1 and they were sooo good! Not overly sweet at all. I also had this seriously delicious guava and cheese pastry and it was ooo soo good (only bad thing is it could've had more cheese, but the guava was soo good and fresh-tasting)! the only bad thing is that i am seriously regretful (or maybe not, for my health and wasteline's sake) that I didn't pick up more pastries (like the yummy-looking chocolate croissant) while I was there since I live so far away. You HAVE to get a rum baba, it's freakin amazing!!! It's like a giant capuchino (cuban pastry) soaked in a rum syrup, filled with cream, and topped with a frosting-like whipped cream. But seriously, this place has some bangin pastries and if you like anything Italian or even European in general, I say it's well worth the job. Also, the drive to this place, though in a not-so-great area, is like driving through what appears to be Miami's true melting pot. Here, it's more than just Hispanic stuff, you'll find authentic Chinese restaurants, West Indian Food, Haitian food (of course, it's right by Little Haiti), and lots of things you won't find elsewhere, like Asian markets. Might not be the prettiest area, but if you are a foodie in the slightest bit, keep an eye out for restaurants because there are some good ones with food you won't necessarily find elsewhere in miami. And by the way, the only reason i am docking a star is for cleanliness and typical Miami customer service, for the most part. But, I will say, the bakery girl was very helpful and sweet!

Great Italian market, and produce market is right across the parking lot. The prices there are the cheapest you will find in town. People tend to go there and really stock up their carts. All the pasta is fresh, and they have a huge variety from tomato, squid, spinach, whole wheat. They have a great selction of wines, olives oils, and dried pasta too. Any kind of pasta you can think of they will have. It is a bit outdated it would be nice if they fixed up the place a little.

I'll keep this brief. Shop at Laurenzos. Eat the food in their "cafeteria." It's wonderful. The first time I was there I was in awe of just how much stuff they have on the shelves. AND the products move. Either that or they have a good housekeeper who dusts everything. The other day I was there and for schmitts & giggles, I did a couple white glove tests on some various products on the shelves. No dust. That's a testament to the folks at Laurenzos. Meats are fresh and VERY reasonably priced. Fish is also fresh. Counter guys are knowledgeable and friendly. I've been there when the wine steward was there too and he is always helpful. Laurenzos, don't miss it.

Stop here every year to pick up Italian Torrones for Thanksgiving. There's a great selection of wine as well as EVOO. If you happen to run into the manager, he'll offer some great options on wine, (an excellent pinot for $6.99). Their fresh made pasta, sauce and meatballs were a hit with our friends for dinner, and if you are in the area for lunch, stop into their cafe. The eggplant Parmesan was perfect!

We don't really grocery shop anywhere else if we can help it. The Farmer's Market side has produce of great quality for unbelievably low prices. The Italian Market has everything. Deli meats, cheeses, wines, fresh fish, fresh meats, and loaves of fresh bread. They have a huge selection of imported items such as sauces, oils, pastas, etc. They even have a full cafe inside the store which is awesome. If you go on the weekend I suggest you go earlier rather than later to avoid crowds. Do not pass up going here!

Do not buy anything that is not in a can or a wine bottle ! I was a fan a this place , but on my first visit I purchased some pastries and there was a roach fighting for its life in the tape they use to seal the box . I put everything back they made in store kept the wine . I needed it !! After months I thought I would try again . Got some wine and some canned tomatoes . Stopped to look at the hot prepared foods and not to my surprise what do I see walking over the rice in the case !????!!!!! That's right a roach . Once again put everything back except the wine ! True story ! Sorry lorenzos ! I'm. Out !! well maybe just for wine !

We found some of the same pasta we bought in Italy at Laurenzo's Market and the price wasn't too bad. My W likes to buy Italian Olive Oil and Italian cheese and salami here. They also make fresh pasta that you can buy off racks of every type of pasta you can think of. However, if you have a pasta machine, Laurenzo's Market is the only place I have found pasta flour and premium semolina such as Hodgson Mill. For the pasta flour, you need to ask the little old Italian woman behind the pasta counter. She sells pasta flour at $.99 per pound (such a deal). She also has bags of wheat flour. There's a large parking lot and you should rarely have trouble finding a space. They are open on weekends.

It might not be what it once was but it is one of the few real speciality/gourmet markets left in South Florida. Besides the exceptional wine area and the amazing selection of all sorts of speciality ingredients, they have a real butcher, an excellent fish market and a great bakery that can make real bread, not the Cuban cardboard that has overwhelmed the rest of Miami. Unfortunately the deli counter is not what it once was. The selection of cheeses and meats has been reduced from its former glory. But on a bright note, the olive selection has expanded greatly. I travel here at least four times a year to stock up on the basic essentials required for great cooking. They also have a eat-in/take-out cafeteria with Italian specialities within the grocery store. The food is pretty good, cheep and filling. In the interest of full disclosure, the Laurenzo's were my back door neighbors when I was growing up in the 60's and 70's.

Best grocery shop in town. The produce is excellent and last longer than publix for about the same price. The butchers are awesome. There are so many specialty ingredients it blows your mind. And the wine selection is the fantastic.

This market is a dream to have so close to me. I've created dinners with items from the fresh seafood and sausage sections, I'm getting hungry just thinking about it. The crab there....OMG....I'm drooling! The friendly guy behind the counter helped me by cutting the huge crab legs and packaging them for me since I wasn't sure how they were going to fit in my pots & pans. 8-) The price is totally worth it. Best New Years Eve dinner I ever made!

Very Dirty place! I used to work there and I would not eat anything from that restaurant or the kitchen. (Had and have rat problems.) Owners are very cheap and dont like to upgrade and update anything but their prices. Have a bunch of under aged bag boys who they do not pay anything to. So basically they work for tips and nothing else... I cant name one thing that i tasted there that tastes good. Wine selection is decent. Everything else SUCKS!

wow impressive. don't want to repeat the other great reviews, but suffice to say that you will like the selection. fresh pasta, baked goods, cheese and meat selection, olive oil, various olives, wine, excellent. I had the cannoli and napoleon -- so good, wait am I still in Miami? for sure, don't miss out on getting the a regular cannoli with chocolate chips (ask to dip the ends)-- they also have french cannoli, chocolate cannoli (get it when you see it if you like chocolate!), mini ones...wow they know to do it right -- extra tasty also cookies, cakes, tarts, I want to try them all Sfogliatelle are nice listening to the people around reminds me of NYC Italian, definitely. some of the prepared food has been sitting out for awhile, but if you have a discerning eye, you can still get some good stuff here. gotten the meat from the butcher, was fine. often come for the ground sirloin, chicken breasts (2 precut = ~2.50) they make chicken or turkey sausages on sat. get your veggies across the street also chose some pre-made pasta, which was just ok. meat sauce frozen turned out pretty well.

yay for Laurenzo's!! omg the desserts are out of this world...i have to control myself when i am there or else i will pay for it when i go to the gym lol!! i love this place. authentic italian food (as well as products). their cafeteria is to die for and its just another reasons why i love NMB so much (their diverse restaurants/markets). GO TO LAURENZOS. SERIOUSLY! YOU WANT PIZZA, LASAGNA? GOOD ITALIAN FOOD/PRODUCTS?? GET YOUR BUTT TO LAURENZONS. YOU'LL BE GLAD YOU DID!

The best Italian Grocer in Miami. They have a small place in the center where you can have a sit don meal and some times they even have live music. They sell pastries, seafood, and have a butcher shop. Right across the street there is a farmers market with the same name and together they easily make the best Italian grocer in the city.

I used to work around the corner from Laurenzo's in the late '90's and this place was a regular locale to eat at. Their cafe' was always fresh and delicious, and super cheap. The market itself is of the highest quality and worth the trip to NMB. Have made many trips there over the last 8 years just for the cafeteria and the supplies. It's the best thing about NMB. Just awesome.

Amazingly Authentic (and this includes their farmer's market across the street)!! Meat and Deli prices range from competitive to excellent, and the in-store Italian cafe is to die for!! Overall variety is outstanding!! I lived in San Francisco and the market atmosphere is similar to that found in China Town or North Beach (Little Italy). Yes, sometimes there are "odors" but that's part of having authetic fresh food and fresh produce....it's part of life. If you can't deal with it, then I suggest shopping at Whole Foods and pay 5x the price. (By the way, Whole Foods and Epicure, etc. are highly, highly overrated and overpriced, however if you need that kind of stroking to make you feel good about your life, go ahead and waste your money---plus those places are not as sanitary as you might think they are). We get boneless, skinless chicken breast at 2.49 a pound when you buy 5 pounds. This same thing at Publix would run 30.00, not 12.50!! We routinely buy all we can carry fruit and vegies (next door) for 20.00, compared to 60.00 at Winn Dixie. Not every item is perfect at Laurenzo's however being able to select your own meat and produce is an authentic experience, not to mention the HUGE price savings!! Glad I live so close by because its a joy to shop there!!

I was in town for Super Bowl week and my aunt ordered from Laurenzo's for her SB gathering. I am not a huge fan of Italian, but Laurenzo's was very good. I really loved the garlic rolls and the meatballs were excellent. The deserts were also very good. I had a cannoli and key lime tart. The tart definitely lived up to its name and was very tart. I haven't actually been to their location, but a great place to take out from for a party or small get together.

I drove by tonight and the neon lettering was on: brillant little white tube with lines of green and red -- and I wished it would have been open, but it closes early (at 7pm). I stop by to get pizza dough (white flour or whole wheat) and good cheese. But there is more: fresh pasta, sauces, pastries. Isles of wine I've never browsed through. And the grocery isles where I find things I only usually fantasize about like turkish delight (its just the associations really..) or dried lavender. The lighting is dim, and it seems a little dusty and dirty compared to brightness of big commercial giants like Whole Foods and Publix (but then thats exactly why I like it).

I hate to give my favorite childhood memory place 3 stars, but with the smell and look of the place I just can't go higher. We were passing through to grab some take-out for later that day, but the smell from the fish market was intense. Awesome market and wine selection so if they could clean things up just a touch it would easily be 4 stars, if not 5, but that smell was just too much for me. The food and bakery were still awesome and woman behind the counter was one of the nicer in the whole Miami area :).

    (3)
  • Bill H.

While I give the market 4 stars for a great selection of Italian foods and wines, the cafeteria is a one star dump. The food is horrible, the service non-existent, and assistance with things like water or butter is reluctant. Buy your Italian groceries there, but go to lunch somewhere else. My table had spaghetti, lasagna and egg plant parmesan. All three plates were pretty bad.

Hello? Why haven't I shopped here before? This Mediterranean market is BANANAS...and that's a good thing. I bought the frozen ricotta raviolis ($4.99), a block of French feta cheese ($8), Greek orzo ($3) and some other knickknacks. I found the quality and prices to be excellent. There's also a restaurant inside and the food looked and smelled outrageous. I must go back to try the grub. All in all, if you love Italian and Greek food, shop here. You'll want to kick yourself for not exploring this gem ages ago.

Um, I think it's a good thing that we don't live close to Laurenzo's - I'd be huge and broke! It's like a little Italian Heaven. From what I saw while gazing at the shelves, up and down the aisles - they have everything and anything: pastas (duh), cheeses, a huge assortment of olives, stone crabs, and everything else in between. There's a little lunch area in the middle of the shop where you can feast on spaghetti and meatballs, lasagna, eggplant parm, tripe, sausage and peppers, stuffed shells and many more yummy entrees! Towards the end of shop circle is the bakery section. O.M.G. I seriously wanted two of everything - cannolis, eclairs, cookies, cookies, cookies, and cakes! I behaved and only purchased a few cannolis, sfogliatelles, a box of amaretto cookies (for the in-laws) and an eclair. I can't wait to visit Laurenzo's again!!!

This is a great Italian market. You can get all sorts of Italian staples, such as great olive oils, all sorts of tomato products, olives, jams, pastas, etc. In addition to sundries you can also find great seafood and meat. The Seafood is a bit expensive (but fresh), but the meat is VERY reasonably priced. Moreover, you can find great cuts that you normally can't find anywhere else (they actually have lamb shoulder regularly, which is an amazing cut I recommend you try and hard to find cut). I also love their prepared and semi-prepared foods. You can buy fresh pastas (just boil for a minutes and it's done), and one of my favorites their meatball mix. I just pop those bad boys in the broiler and smother them with Laurenzo's prepared marinara or fra diavolo sauce. Very good eating. Their deli is also very clutch. It has an amazing array of Italian cold cuts, cheeses and charcuterie (or whatever it is in Italian.. Salume I think). You can find guanciale (jowl bacon), burrata (the addictive creamy mozzarella type cheese), prosciutto, you name it. Really good stuff, all of it. Underrated cafeteria too. You can have lunch while you shop. Italian specialties like stuffed shells are a standout.

Quirky little store, with many specialized items. The hot food is OK, nothing to write home about, but the atmosphere and "made at home" feel give it an interesting twist.

The selection of fresh pastas, meats, cheeses and bakery items are fabulous. The asiago gnocchi is out of this world. There is also a fabulous array of wines, olives oils and dried pasta. The prices are reasonable. The help is friendly enough. Right next door is their farmers market. It is easily a one stop shopping trip. If you get a bit hungry you can grab a seat in the cafe and have a nice lunch.

How I've never been to Laurenzo's before is a mystery to me. It's huge, convenient, and stocked with just about everything you could imagine. The farmer's market is filled with fresh produce and I was able to buy everything I needed at a fraction of the cost that I'd pay at my nearby chain grocery store. Across the street we stopped inside the main market where the aroma of freshly baked bread welcomed us. The size of the market can be very deceiving on the outside since it seems a whole lot bigger once you're inside. There is shelf after shelf of unique items and ingredients that any cook could appreciate. But don't let the "Italian" in the business name fool you. Their bakery has Latin pastelitos and tons of items for various ethnic cooking. Plus, while I was perusing the isles I found a SLEW of my favorite tea brand (Stash) with flavors I'd normally have to buy online (score!) As for the staff, they were extremely friendly and cordial - as were the customers which was a nice change of pace. To sum it up, my boyfriend and I were like kids in a candy store. We can't WAIT to go to back to try food from their inside cafe and to stock up on groceries. Sure, the Fresh Market may be (practically) within walking distance to where I live, but it's overpriced for what it is and I'd happily drive the extra 5 minutes to shop at Laurenzo's instead.

Service from employees is very poor, especially in the bakery dept.

I haven't spent a ton of time in NMB, but I know my way around. How in the world haven't I heard of and been to this place before? Like my life companion, Nicole A, said when we were enjoying slices of pizza "it's like angels started singing when we walked in the door!" This place is quaint and perfect. Great selection of meats and cheeses. Bakery is off the chain. I want to move to NMB just so I can go here every day.

I haven't reviewed Laurenzos yet? Well, this is pretty much the last market of it's kind in Miami-Dade County, and is evidence that NMB was at one time the sixth borough of New York. If you are looking for a clean, shiny place that is trying to mimic Epicure, I wouldn't come here. To be really honest, there are newer and shinier Italian markets in Broward and Palm Beach County, and I feel their bakery and meat case isn't as good as it used to be, but none can match the soul that this joint has and I really respect them holding out in a neighborhood that has changed so much over time. Come here and get a top notch sfogliatelle from the bakery, some nice fresh pasta, and a little taste of the past.

The market with food stuffs is great, but what I really want to tell you about is the farmer's market-esque building across the street that carries the freshest fruits and veggies around. I'm telling you, it may look unassuming from the outside, but the produce is amazing and way fresher AND cheaper than Publix or Whole Foods or Fresh Market.

I went here yesterday to pick up a couple of fresh tomatoes because I didn't want to drag the kids into Publix - so on my way to pick them up from afterschool I ran in....I got my tomatoes but OH.MY .GOD..what did I discover? (course..me being me I had to do a mini-marathon around the store to see the beautiful stuff they sell) A half a shelf of Irish/British food to include curry pastes (yes, I happen to think the British have the monopoly on curry outside of India - thats what happens when you take over a country for years and years...you have to deal with the fact that you are going to have loads of "immigrants' who are legal subjects because they were born under British rule but thats a discussion for another day). Can you say INTERNAL GLEE three times in a row after 6 pints of Guinness? Well I experienced a moment of total and absolute internal glee right then... . They have biccies (as in biscuits, as in cookies) They have Bird's Custard...nice to pour over the biccies.. They have Coleman's dried mustard, Bramston Pickle, Heinz Salad Cream, HP Sauce...heck I think they even had real t-bags (Lipton's eat your heart out) They have a heck of a lot more but I didn't have time to fondle and stroke "the precious things of the store" (BBC - a League of Gentlemen) because I am a mere mortal and had to make it to aftercare before 6p.m. Ah Laurenzo's...you are my new hero.

Man, I wish I lived close enough to Laurenzo's to make it my go-to place for groceries! This place is awesome! They carry huge selections of any kind of pasta (dried and fresh), tomotoes & sauces (a whole aisle of any concoction in a can you can think of), olive oils, and assorted other Italian goods. I could probably wander the aisles for hours before heading to the checkout. They have an in-store cafe that serves lunch, if you're just interested in a quick bite. But be warned - they're cash only (but the grocery part takes credit cards!). There's a huge seafood counter, and a separate huge meat counter, along with an olive bar, with any and every kind of olive you can imagine!! They also do subs - hot and cold, and have a little thing for a couple selections for a hot meal. As you wind your way back to the registers at the front, you are forced to walk through the heavenly bakery section, with rows upon rows of cakes and canollis. Just try to control yourself, I dare you!! If you haven't been to Laurenzo's Market yet, get yourself there in a hurry!

While I love the selection of hard-to-find items, the prices are not always the best. Today I bought a 2008 Villadoria Barolo, and thought I was getting a good deal as it was marked down from $59.99 to $39.99. When I got home, I wanted to know more about the wine, so I looked it up on Google. Priced between $23.99 and $32.99 on dozens of online retailers. Once bitten.... I'll be checking all prices on my iPhone from now on.

They have some hard-to-find items that are not strictly Italian - pluses for that! And there's the odd stuff too - again, pluses for that! Examples: - HUGE tomatoes (if you're Venezuelan, these would remind you of the huge tomatoes found in Isla Margarita. If you're not Venezuelan - get these - they're big enough to make a carpaccio out of them if you wanted to - and the slices would be bigger than your hand!) - Moscatel vinegar? A what? - Jamon Iberico - the famed cured ham that comes from pigs that's strictly acorn-fed, and from a certain region in Spain - Whole rabbits, goat heads (or was it lamb?), duck, duckling, goose, etc... (need I to go on? ;-)) Look for specials, clearances and sales. The pastas and breads are good. The pastries are still a miss despite them looking scrumptious - I did not particularly like my eclairs from there as well as some other pastries I've tried previously. Minus one star for that.
